WHAT'S THE LOWER FREQUENCIES?

The title of this blog comes from the last line of Ralph Ellison's novel Invisible Man quoted on the home page. That line is an interesting way to end a novel. It leaves you with more questions than answers. But that line has stayed with me ever since I finished this book as a high school senior.

The protagonist of the novel, The Invisible Man, is invisible. Not because he's a ghost or a superhero, but because he's a black man in America and people, both white and black, refuse to see him for who he really is. Sounds like high school in a way.

I think that the last line in Ellison's novel universalizes the Invisible Man's struggles. (Don't cringe too much about universalism. I'll cover the topic.) We all struggle to see and be seen by others. We all have to find the courage to show up and be our authentic selves every day. Sounds like there is a lot of value on the lower frequencies. Let's explore it together.
